This seed project digitizes Akha oral and ritual texts held in four fieldworkers' archives, converting older, idiosyncratic scripts into the standardized Common Akha Orthography and exploring translation software for English and Chinese.

A 2026 DHI seed project led by Dr. Marco CABOARA that builds a digital platform for European printed maps of Tartary from the 16th to the 18th century, with GIS analysis and teaching resources.

This seed project is building a colour-coded, hyperlinked digital edition of the early Han scripture Huainanzi, making its textual parallels with pre-Han writings searchable, comparable and citable. The first two chapters are complete, with the full text targeted by 2029.

A 2026 DHI seed project led by Prof. Liz Pui Yee CHEE that maps how the saiga antelope, rhinoceros and shark became medicine and food across 20th-century East and Southeast Asia.

This 2025 Fall seed project is building a high-accuracy system that automatically reads and segments Manchu script from historical archives, using a fine-tuned vision-language model trained on synthetic and real scans; the next phase adds transliteration and machine translation.
