Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University, with HKUST and the University of Macau, has issued a call for papers for the Student Forum on Chinese Culture in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The forum will be held on 9 and 10 January 2027 at BNBU, and the organisers expect to invite around thirty to fifty undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The call sets out three purposes: to promote traditional Chinese culture, to advance academic exchange and the development of young talent in Chinese cultural studies across the Greater Bay Area, and to provide a cross-institutional, interdisciplinary platform for academic dialogue. Submissions are invited from students in the relevant disciplines at universities across the region, with outstanding undergraduates and postgraduates particularly welcome.
Who can apply
Eligible applicants are outstanding undergraduate, master's and doctoral students working in Chinese culture related fields, including literature, history, philosophy, linguistics, the arts, communication studies and adjacent areas. Papers must be the author's own original work, must not have been published or be under review elsewhere, and must meet scholarly standards, free of plagiarism and other forms of academic misconduct.
What to submit
- A full paper on a topic related to Chinese culture, with a clear thesis, rigorous argumentation, thorough use of sources and significant scholarly merit.
- An abstract of 300 to 500 characters.
- The paper may follow any formatting convention standard in the author's discipline, and may be written in Chinese or English.
- Personal details, including university, major, year of study and contact information.
- The subject line of the email should read "Name + University + Paper Title", with the paper attached as an electronic copy.
Review and publication
After the deadline, the organising committee will arrange anonymous review of all submissions by expert reviewers. Selection results are expected in late December 2026, and successful authors will be notified by email and invited to attend. The post-forum proceedings will be published in Hong Kong, either as a volume or as a special issue of the Newsletter of the Institute for Communication Studies of Chinese Culture.
Costs and dates
The organisers will cover meals for selected participants during the forum. Participants are responsible for their own accommodation, travel and other expenses. The submission deadline is 15 December 2026. The forum itself is provisionally scheduled for 9 and 10 January 2027 at BNBU, and further details will be announced separately.
