Dr. He Jun-yan, research scientist in Meituan’s multimodal foundation-model team and formerly of Alibaba DAMO Academy, shares how a humanities graduate moved into the AI industry.

Dr. HE Jun-yan is an internationally renowned expert in visual foundation models. After completing his PhD, he worked at Alibaba DAMO Academy and later joined Meituan’s Foundation Model Team. He has participated in the development of several well-known GenAI models, including Tongyi Wan, which has become the foundation for many current generative AI platforms. He has published more than 40 papers in top-tier journals and is currently working as a researcher at the Foundation Model Team, Meituan, where he has contributed to the development of the well-known LongCat series of large models.
